2012 Fire facts: Using what we learned last year

As 2013 Fire Prevention Month kicks off and we focus our attention on preventing kitchen fires, it’s important to take a moment to look back at last year’s statistics and how fires are affecting lives.

The reported 1,375,000 fires last year caused 2,855 civilian deaths, 16,500 civilian injuries and $12.4 billion in property damage, according to information released by the National Fire Prevention Association and Fire Analysis and Research.

Amazingly, this is actually a one percent decrease from 2011.

Take a look at the information released by the two groups and make sure you are taking steps to protect against fires.
